how big is it?how big is it?

tv fits room"How big is it?" That's the question that comes to mind when people see the recent addition to our family room. The new television has a span of 65 inches diagonally. So far we have tried:
  • Video Games - Jessica is playing her ancient PS2 machine and it looks wonderful
  • DVDs - using an up-scaling Toshiba player, looks very nice
  • Normal Television - looks OK, but pales compared to other sources
  • HD TV - looks AMAZING. We watched hours of college football and the Discovery channel the day the set was delivered.
The factory configuration, "out of the box", had exaggerated color, contrast, etc. If you buy a new TV, look for a picture setting that is called, "Natural," or something similar to that. On our set, it toned down the exaggeration quite a bit.
Now some details for the nerds - Mitsubishi 65732, 65 inch, 1080p fed by a dual tuner Comcast (Motorola) DVR and a Toshiba up-scaling (1080i) HDMI DVD player. Note that the first two digits in the model number are the size of the screen; the second three numbers are the "series." Mitsubishi sells the 732 series (which I purchased) and the 731 series. The 732 includes several features that are not included on the 731, such as dark detailing and better noise processing. This results in a much better picture when dealing with high-quality sources.
video only logoI purchased the TV at the Video Only store near Alderwood Mall. They had a really good price, were not pushy, and showed a genuine interest in the technology.
